Historic Northport

at Historic Northport

Friends of Historic Northport was founded in 1996. Since then the organization has grown to over 1000 members across the country. FHN produces a quarterly fact-filled historical newsletter, operates a Victorian-era Museum, a Heritage Records Room at the Historic Clements House, and the Umbria Schoolhouse – the oldest standing schoolhouse in Alabama.

FHN is currently developing a 200-acre park named the Van de Graff Arboretum and Historic Bridge Park. The park property was a donation of the Jemison-Van de Graaff-Rountree Family. In September 2010 efforts to move the 1882 King Bowstring Bridge back to Northport were completed. The 1882 Bridge will be the centerpiece of a one-of-a-kind recreational & historic site.

Each year FHN, along with the City of Northport, has an Annual Heritage Homecoming Luncheon in May, participates in the Dickens Downtown festival the first Tuesday each December, and has an Annual Bake Sale.

If you are interested in becoming a member of FHN, you will receive our newsletter as well as mailings keeping you informed on the activities of the organization.
