Presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Art of Hope event (Sept. 12) will spotlight creativity, community and mental health. Enjoy an evening filled with good food, music and art while promoting a worthy cause.
AFSP’s Alabama Chapter Junior Board is gearing up for its FREE fall outreach event that will aim to promote mental health awareness! The Art of Hope: Speaking the Unspoken will take place at Avondale Brewing Company on Tuesday, September 12, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
In the weeks leading up to the event, the junior board will accept artwork* from the Birmingham community that creatively reflects the effects of mental illness, which so often reach beyond words. At NO admission cost, come out to peruse the gallery of submissions while enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live entertainment. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
By creating a safe environment, we hope to illuminate both the struggles and triumphs of mental illness and show those who are battling that they are not alone. As Henri Matisse said, “Creativity takes courage.” Through our efforts, we hope to create community among those struggling – even in darkness.
(*Interested in submitting your own art for cash prizes? Visit our event website at www.afspartofhope.com for a submission form and further details.)
