AEC Mega Meeting & Expo: FBI & Cyber Security

Presented by AEC Mega Group at Regions Field

The AEC MEGA Group was formed in 2014 to promote the architecture, engineering and construction industry and to provide a means of networking with current and potential new clients. Our 4th annual MEGA MEETING will feature an exhibitor hall with more than 20 vendors relating to the AEC industry, an exciting speaker relevant to the profession and ample opportunities for networking.

Lecture: Since the creation of the FBI’s Cyber Division in 2002, the one constant in regards to the threat posed by cyber actors is change.  From the early online hactivists to the current state of nation state actors and terrorists utilizing the evolving nature of computer networks to achieve their goals, the FBI is on the forefront of mitigating the threats posed by these actors.  This presentation will deal with how the cyber threat is constantly changing, what can we expect in the future, and how the FBI will need to work with the public and private sector to address these changes.

About the speaker: Darren J. Mott is the Supervisory Special Agent for the Counterintelligence Program for the Birmingham Division of the FBI. This program works with other USIC partners to detect, deter, and neutralize the threat of hostile nation intelligence services active in Northern Alabama. SSA Mott entered on duty with the FBI in 1999 and has worked both the cyber and counterintelligence threats during his career. SSA Mott has worked in the Charlotte and Cleveland Field Divisions and worked at the national program level at FBIHQ. SSA Mott was responsible for building the first working relationship between the FBI and Russian Federal Security Service to combat the cyber criminal threat originating from Eastern Europe and he created the first national level program blending the cyber and counterintelligence disciplines within the FBI. The Birmingham Division operates its counterintelligence program out of the Huntsville Resident Agency and has primary responsibility for mitigation of cyber and counterintelligence threats present in Cummings Research Park, Redstone Arsenal, and the private sector companies in Northern Alabama.
