Art in the Making offers opportunities for adults aged 55 and better to participate in art classes taught by professional artist teachers. These classes are held for two hours, once a week for eight week sessions, and are offered in a variety of art mediums. You may qualify for reduced tuition if you have a limited budget.
In this eight week class you will learn basic clay handbuilding, wheel throwing, and sculptural construction techniques. Over the course of eight weeks, you will build on beginning skills into being able to use clay as a useful tool in your ability to create things you envision. The ability to explore all the different ways to create with clay will allow a broad range of skill sets to be spotlighted. Some may take to the wheel, some may enjoy the whimsy and manipulation of small sculptures, some may be interested in the process of firing or the history of this ancient art form.

Aroha Philanthropies launched “Seeding Vitality Arts” (formerly “Seeding Artful Aging”) in Spring 2016.
As a subset of the broader field of creative aging, vitality arts programs inspire and enable older adults to learn, make and share the arts in ways that are novel, complex and socially engaging. Successful vitality arts programs are led by teaching artists whose creative process and understanding of older adults bring joy, connection, improved health and well-being, and a renewed sense of purpose to older adults in community and residential settings.
