One In Our Blood is a city-wide program of events and exhibitions building on the work of Blood Equality, the project to address discrimination against prospective LGBTQ blood donors and allow everyone an equal opportunity to donate blood.
The Blood Divided exhibit highlights the life and accomplishments of Dr. Charles R. Drew, the blood banking pioneer who could not donate blood himself because he was African American.
Blood Equality was launched in 2015 in partnership with Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), FCB Health, and artist Jordan Eagles’ Blood Mirror project to address discrimination against prospective LGBTQ blood donors and allow everyone an equal opportunity to donate blood. One In Our Blood is a comprehensive, city-wide program of events and exhibitions, conceived and coordinated by Birmingham Curator Paul Barrett, building on the work of Blood Equality.
