Peace Corps Information Event

Peace Corps Information Event

Presented by Greater Birmingham Returned Peace Corps Volunteers at Ryals School of Public Health Building, Room 407

You are cordially invited to a most enjoyable film screening, reception and Peace Corps information function—all in one evening.  Come to learn more about the Peace Corps, meet Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and hear why Peace Corps service is still relevant today.

The gathering will take place in Room 407, Ryals Public Health Building, 1665 University Boulevard (Formerly 8th Avenue South), Birmingham, AL 35294 on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Discover exciting opportunities in countries like Samoa, Paraguay, Ghana and Thailand.  Peace Corps service is a personal and professional experience like no other. Volunteers live and work abroad for two years sharing their skills and working to make a difference in their communities. Many volunteer openings are now available in more than 60 countries that have asked for assistance.

At this event you will have opportunities to meet and talk with:

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers
Peace Corps Volunteers about to depart on their overseas assignments
People “Nominated” for Peace Corps service
Parents of Peace Corps Volunteers currently serving overseas
Prospective Peace Corps Volunteers
Those having a general interest in the Peace Corps
Erica Wherry, Peace Corps Regional Recruiter for Alabama from the Peace Corps Regional Office in Atlanta and
Others with an “international outlook” or general interest in international experiences

Both Erica and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will be available to discuss the Peace Corps and answer questions.  Erica will have information materials on the Peace Corps to hand out.  Free parking is available on the street.  Paid parking is available in the parking deck adjacent to the Ryals building.

The function is sponsored by the Peace Corps, the Greater Birmingham Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

We’ll be delighted to see you there.

Please call Dan Frederick, Publicity Coordinator for the Greater Birmingham Returned Peace Corps Volunteers at 205-631-4680 or email at dfred4@bellsouth.net if you have questions or would like more information.

At the same event please join the Peace Corps for a special screening of the film Girl Rising followed by a discussion on girls’ education worldwide and how you can help through Peace Corps service.

From Academy Award-nominated film director Richard E. Robbins, Girl Rising journeys around the globe to witness the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world. Viewers get to know nine unforgettable girls living in the developing world: ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. Prize-winning authors put the girls’ remarkable stories into words, and renowned actors give them voice. The movie will run for 1 hour and 41 minutes.  Please visit www.girlrising.com for more general information about the film.
