My 2nd Act: Survivor Stories from the Stage

My 2nd Act: Survivor Stories from the Stage

Presented by Women Survivors Alliance at Dorothy Jemison Day Theater

One Stage. Ten Women.  Infinite Hope.  The inaugural Birmingham production of My 2nd Act: Survivor Stories from the Stage will make its national tour stop at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theatre on September 20, 2015, at 3:00 p.m.

My 2nd Act, produced by Women Survivors Alliance and sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America ® (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, is a live storytelling event featuring 10 local women from the Birmingham area sharing their inspiring, entertaining, emotional and triumphant journeys of their 2nd acts since their cancer diagnosis.  Using their gifts of time and experience to give back to society, these women prove the second act of their lives can be even more meaningful than life before cancer. This stage show is moving, motivational and hilarious and promises at the end will teach and inspire all who attend.

Brenda Ladun of ABC 33/40, herself a cancer survivor, will serve the show’s emcee.

“Cancer draws a line in the sand of life,” said Karen Shayne, My 2nd Act producer and co-founder of Women Survivors Alliance. “Cancer doesn’t end when treatment does. Even when there’s no longer any evidence of disease, the diagnosis and treatment forever changes a life. Survivors need a way to make sense out of their experience and with My 2nd Act and Women Survivors Alliance, it’s our hope to help them accomplish that.”

The performance will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham. Tickets are available now at www.djdtheater.org or by calling 205-458-0381.
