Alabama Wildlife Ctr & Exploring Natural Alabama - Birds of a Feather: Coloration & Mate Selection

Alabama Wildlife Ctr & Exploring Natural Alabama - Birds of a Feather: Coloration & Mate Selection

Presented by Alabama Wildlife Center at Alabama Wildlife Center

Birds are among the most beautiful and colorful creatures on the planet, but have you ever asked yourself, why? Why is it that for many species the male is the more colorful of the pair? Presumably, the female is judging her potential mate on a number of factors and it so happens that plumage coloration is one of them. But what you may not know is the reason why – the answer may surprise you. Perhaps even more interesting are those species where the female is the more colorful of the pair. Dr. Hill, an ornithologist at Auburn University will tell you all this and more.

Weather permitting, an informal nature walk follows the program so be sure to bring your camera, binoculars & field guides. (Free after paid admission to Oak Mountain State Park.)
