Throughout October, architects, artists and writers are collaborating with the Desert Island Supply Co. to offer a free workshop for kids called Lit Houses. They have been reading stories with a strong sense of place, and then creating and writing about their own scale-model homes, landscapes and neighborhoods. The models-in-progress will be on display at an open house (with snacks + drinks) on Wednesday, October 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Desert Island Supply Co. is a creative writing and tutoring center for students in the Birmingham area. The Desert Island Supply Co. offers free writing and creative workshops for students, ages 7-18, plus after-school homework help and in-school programs. The Desert Island Supply Co. also serves as a hub for creative community projects and events.
