HERO Bamboo Bike and Skateboard Workshop

HERO Bamboo Bike and Skateboard Workshop

Presented by Design Week Birmingham and MAKEbhm at MAKEbhm

HERObike is located in Greensboro, Alabama and is ran by HERO, Hale Empowerment and Revitalization Organization.

Sat’s workshop will be an opportunity to help lay up and press 3 new skateboards.  Using a concrete mold, we will prepare and lay up the layers to make press new boards.  We will use bamboo mat, kevlar, carbon fiber, balsa core and bamboo mat all sandwiched with West System Epoxy.  We will also use a bench sander to shape both a popsicle and cruiser shape following a traced pattern.

HERO works as a catalyst for community development in the Alabama Black Belt to end rural poverty. HERO began in 1994 by a group of committed citizens who wanted to create a strong community focused on family. As a 501(c)3, provides job training, affordable housing and economic development to build strong communities. In 2004 the HERO Housing Resource Center was added. The Housing Resource Center at HERO now owns 5 small business, helped to start a total of 11 small businesses and runs HEROhousing. HEROhousing builds affordable housing for home ownership, lease purchase and rental.

We will have a few Beacon Alley t’shirts to give away.
