Birmingham Revealed at Vulcan Park and Museum unveils stories of Alabama’s history and culture in an educational setting best suited for adult learners.
Written by playwright Lee Shackleford, Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal compares the different philosophies of two early civil rights activists, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois, while showing how they came to respect one another. Comparing their philosophies of post-Civil War integration, this dramatic performance will capture the audience’s attention and highlight the complexity of changing a culture of racial discrimination, an issue that is still crucial today. This premiere performance, endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission, will kick off Vulcan Park & Museum’s Black History Month program which will provide this educational drama, free of charge, to Birmingham’s underserved middle and high school students.
As a part of Vulcan Park & Museum’s adult educational series, Birmingham Revealed, Washington & Du Bois: Two Opinions, One Goal will premiere on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. following a reception at 5:30 p.m.
