Voices United

Presented by Crisis Center at The Jaybird

This year, our nation witnessed a staggering number of individuals responding to the #metoo movement.

We know that the number of people who experience sexual assault is far higher than it should be. The Crisis Center sees an average of 30 sexual assault survivors each month for medical and forensic examination services in our S.A.N.E. Clinic. With the combination of our nurses’ specialized forensic training and the use of high-tech equipment specifically designed to collect forensic evidence in assault cases, we are able to collect a greater amount of evidence in a more private environment than a standard hospital emergency room.

While as many as one in six women and one in 33 men will be assaulted at some point in their lifetime, we know that only a small fraction of these survivors of sexual assault come forward.

However, we believe that as we are able to collect better evidence and help bring justice against more perpetrators; our survivors will live in a better, safer community where they can confidently come forward to report their assaults. More assaults reported means more survivors experience justice.

We are bringing our community together to lift our voices and effect meaningful change.

A forensic exam is often the first and most essential step on the path to hope and healing for survivors. This very special fundraising event held in the incredibly warm and engaging space at the Jaybird will feature the music of several Birmingham songwriting acts. Here, we will unite for our survivors to help ensure that the Crisis Center’s S.A.N.E. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program continues to help create a safer place for all people.

With your support, every donation we receive will mean hope, healing and safety for another person whose life has been forever changed by sexual violence. Thank you for considering being a part of this special event for our community’s survivors.
