This family-friendly movie was written and directed by Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama, Founder and Director of the World Oyama Karate Organization. Oyama, who plays himself as the karate grand master, wrote the screen play for the film drawing from his book Uchi Deshi in America. Oyama is also known for his role in the Academy Award winning movie Get Out , written and directed by Jordan Peele.

There is plenty of martial arts action, but there is more to this movie. Take A Chance is the story of a young man who faces tough challenges in order to discover himself and win the love of his American sweetheart. The movie reveals what it takes to build true character. As the film synopsis describes, “Sometimes you have to travel halfway around the world in order to find yourself. Take A Chance, based on the true story of Saiko Shihan Oyama’s Uchi Deshi, follows a wayward Japanese teenager’s journey of survival and self-discovery in the American South.” Saiko Shihan Oyama believes that in our modern society where technology, easy convenience and instant gratification are commonplace, people “must challenge themselves to push beyond discomfort, fatigue or injury. Only then will they be able to come face to face with who they really are.” Visit the Take A Chance movie website at www.takeachancemovie.com for more information about the film and to watch the trailer.
