Comprised of 21 of Birmingham’s top Professional Jazz Players, SuperJazz has performed concerts in the Birmingham area each year since 1978. All members of SuperJazz volunteer their time for rehearsals and performances.  The band features a traditional instrumentation of 5 saxes, 5 Trombones, 5 Trumpets and a rhythm section.

Rather than a guest artist, this concert will feature solo arrangements for several members of the band.  We may even finish with a little Christmas music, so please be prepared to sing along. Arrangements by Everett Lawler, Steve Sample, James Pierpont, Jim Mahaffey,  Paul Murtha, Ray Reach, Les Hooper, Sammy Nestico and others. Beginning at 2:30, we will hear the Hoover High School First Edition Jazz Ensemble, directed by Sallie White.   This award-wining group gives us a glimpse of the future for big-band Jazz.
