Discussions about forgiveness are generally held only in religious or spiritual settings. In most religions, forgiveness is commonly seen as an important component of communion with the divine. Is it possible that forgiveness may also be an important component of the therapeutic endeavor? If so, how can we, as clinicians facilitate a healthy forgiveness process, while remaining within the parameters of ethics and the core competencies for addressing religious and spiritual issues?
OBJECTIVES
Participants will learn about forgiveness as seen from the perspective of several of the world’s religions.
Participants will demonstrate an understanding of forgiveness as a transpersonal transformative process.
Participants will demonstrate an understanding of the stages of forgiveness.
Participants will demonstrate an understanding of how a therapist may facilitate forgiveness.
