The Curious Savage by John Patrick is a lively comedy set in an upscale 1950s mental institution called The Cloisters. Ethel Savage, whose husband has recently died and left her a large sum of money, has hidden the fortune from her three stepchildren who will stop at nothing to get their greedy hands on what they believe is due them, including institutionalizing the only mother they’ve ever known. Mrs. Savage finds herself surrounded by the residents of The Cloisters, whose warmth and humor envelop her with the love she never found from her own family.
