Join us for a film showing of LA 92, which explores the events leading up to and impact of the LA Riots. After watching the film, we will facilitate a panel discussion with local community activists and scholars.
The UAB Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Office of Student Involvement & Leadership, and Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs invites you to join us for the launch of “Cultural Lens Film & Speaker Series”. The focus of this initiative is to introduce films, scholars, authors, artists, and activists to campus to address various diversity, equity and inclusion topics as it relates to our communities. Specifically, we seek to explore these cultural topics through the power of storytelling as portrayed through various media mediums to drive discussion on accuracy, key themes, barriers, and opportunities to find common ground and transform our communities.
Our first forum will be a film showing of LA 92, which explores the events leading up to and impact of the LA Riots. After watching the film, we will facilitate a discussion on your reflections while covering topics such as race relations, community policing, civil unrest and protest, and the justice system.
