Ground Floor Contemporary is a cooperative art gallery committed to promoting and expanding the visual arts scene in the greater Birmingham area.
Ground Floor Contemporary is pleased to present ECHO. Artists Elaine Farley Kinnaird, Miriam Norris Omura, and Susan Vitali will be exhibiting artworks that explore metaphors and ideas connected to echoes. The visual idea of echoes: being a reverberation of something, (rather than a sound), opens up visual concepts around repetition, the act of mimicking, responses, reflections, and shadows.
Nov 11th 2 pm “Conversation with the Artists” Artists Elaine Farley Kinnaird, Miriam Norris Omura, and Susan Vitali will discuss the process of their work and how they each interpreted ideas of echoes within their work.
Nov 18th 2 pm “Collecting Original Art”, with Kevin Shook, Asst. Professor at Birmingham-Southern College, will discuss printmaking as art democracy, the aura of the original, and how/why to begin an art collection.
Kinnaird holds an MFA in Fiber Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art and was a 2017 Visual Arts Fellowship recipient from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. She regularly exhibits across the US.
Omura holds a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in Fiber and Material Studies, and was also a 2017 Visual Arts Fellowship recipient from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. In recent months she studied kasuri weaving at the Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto, Japan.
Vitali holds an MFA in Print Media from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print Media. Her work is held in multiple corporate collections, and she exhibits across the US and internationally.
