"Between Charity and Social Justice: Community Engagement and Activism Among Faith-Based Communities

Presented by UAB Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at UAB Heritage Hall

Our faith-based communities have often been our safe space and source of comfort, healing, affirmation, inspiration, and civic engagement. Join us as we discuss the mission, challenges, and opportunities present among diverse, faith-based communities as it relates to serving the larger society. In addition, with Sunday being noted as “the most segregated day in America,” panelists will answer the overarching question, “How do we tackle such divisions to promote a greater sense of community healing, uplift, and unity?”

Round 1 will bring forth representatives from Faith Chapel, The Worship Center, Iron City Church, Sixth Avenue Baptist, Unity of Birmingham, Saint Junia, and The Firm Foundation.
Round 2 will come at a later date.

This two-part series will continue in a future forum with a broader discussion that will include representatives from the local Jewish, Islamic, Hindi, Buddhist, and other faith-based communities.
