Experiment with the oldest known technique for firing pottery! During the first class students will use the throwing wheel, or bare hands, to create pieces for firing, the second day will be for glazing, then on the last day students will learn how to build above-ground pits made out of bricks. The pieces will be carefully nestled in individual pits, covered with wood shavings, toped with a metal grate and, last but not least, SET ON FIRE. The fires will then be monitored over the next couple of days by the instructor, and once the fire naturally extinguishes itself they will be removed and cleaned. Students will be excited by the remarkable patterns and colors their pieces will gain from this fun firing techniques.
