This presentation will focus on basic characteristics of the kingdom Fungi, particularly Basidiomycota (filamentous fungi) and Ascomycota (often called sac fungi). Following discussion of some basic biology and ecological roles, we will move on to the macro-features used most commonly for identification purposes. The remainder of the class will focus on identifying mushrooms commonly found here in Alabama and surrounding regions – using live specimens and photos.
