CONTRA DANCE

CONTRA DANCE

Presented by FOOTMAD at YWCA Birmingham

Contra Dancing is SO MUCH FUN!  A complete endorphin blast!  All are welcome.

We urge folks that are new to Contra to come early for a beginner session (30 minutes).  Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that will stay on your feet.  Bring a snack to share if you wish.

Here is info on our band and caller for this dance:

Over the Moon (ō-vər t͟hə mün) (noun) from the Abridged Encyclopedia of Contra Happiness: 1. Smooth high-octane joy, grace, lift and flirtation. 2. A wide variety of music and styles from traditional New England to modern and jazzy, from graceful jigs to hot Irish reels, with many stops in-between, always keeping the beat clear and the dance moving. 3. Robin Behn, flute and whistle (of Waxwing); Dave Marcus, concertina, (of Holy Coyote and Reelplay); Robbin Marcus, piano from, (of Renewable Energy and Reelplay).

Doug Singleton is a really fine caller from Atlanta who brings us good dances and teaches them in a fun, clear way.
