A Gracious Dialogue on Evolution

A Gracious Dialogue on Evolution

Presented by Samford University Howard College of Arts and Sciences at Reid Chapel

Samford University’s Center for Science and Religion and the Issacher Fund will host two free public events in March featuring leaders in the science and religion dialogue.

Deborah Haarsma, astronomer and president of the BioLogos organization, will present The Universe Declares the Glory of God March 2 at 6:00 p.m. in Reid Chapel.

Hugh Ross, astronomer and president of the Reasons to Believe organization, will join Haarsma to present BioLogos and Reasons to Believe: A Gracious Dialogue on Evolution March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Reid Chapel.

Haarsma’s BioLogos organization provides virtual and actual meeting places where the best Christian minds in the sciences, theology, biblical studies, philosophy and other fields meet on topics of mutual interest for the good of the church. She is an experienced scientist, with several research publications on extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. Prior to BioLogos, she served as professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College. She often speaks to churches, universities and conferences about the relationships between science and Christian faith. Her co-authored book Origins: Christian Perspectives on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design is used by many Christian high schools and colleges as a guide for navigating debates over creation and evolution.

Hugh Ross’ Reasons to Believe organization is dedicated to demonstrating the compatibility of science and Christianity. He earned his B.S. in physics from the University of British Columbia and his M.S. and Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Toronto. While in college, he dedicated himself to faith in Christ following an in-depth study of Scripture that convinced him of the Bible’s factual accuracy. Today, Ross is the author of multiple books (such as Why the Universe Is the Way It Is) and speaks on science and faith issues to audiences around the world.

Both events are free-of-charge and open to the public. Samford convo credit is available for both events.
