Impressionistic Birmingham with Amy Peterson

Impressionistic Birmingham with Amy Peterson

Presented by Forstall Art Center at Forstall Art Center

In the last five years of painting Birmingham city scenes, local artist Amy Peterson learned to take artistic liberties to convey mood and to strengthen a composition, while still remaining true to the locale. Amy particularly love rainy city scenes for the moody qualities they impart. When painting en plein air, Amy learns most from painting true to the scene. When painting in the studio, she takes liberties in reconstructing a scene. It’s the difference between painting whatone sees and composing based on how one sees. There is no method or formula to it, but there’s an art to it that is accessible to all. In this workshop, participants will evaluate and reference photographs to paint a rainy, impressionistic Birmingham city scene with glimmering car lights, traffic lights, and all!
