This free workshop is designed to help voter registration volunteers understand voting rights in Alabama and give instruction on how to help ex-felons and other disenfranchised voters restore their right to vote.
LWVGB is committed to expanding the vote to all eligible citizens. To support this effort, the league is hosting this free Voting Rights Restoration Workshop. The workshop is designed to help registration volunteers understand voting rights in Alabama and give instruction on how to help felons and other disenfranchised voters restore their right to vote. Many ex-felons believe that they have lost their right to vote when they have not. Others do not know that their voting rights can be restored. Still others simply do not understand the process for getting their voting rights restored. In addition to information about voting rights, attendees will have the opportunity to try out scenarios that may be encountered as they register people and encourage them to vote. Mr. John Paul Taylor, the North and Northeastern Alabama Representative of the Voting Rights Restoration Project (VRRP) will lead the workshop. The VRRP is a project of the Campaign Legal Center and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
