Join us for “30 for 30” and give $30. The Jefferson County Memorial Project hosts a fundraiser to ensure that the Jefferson County community can contribute and honor our 30 Jefferson County Residents as they will be remembered through the project.
The JCMP was created after the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) opened a groundbreaking memorial in Montgomery dedicated to African American victims of racial terror lynchings called the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. The Memorial contains monuments corresponding to over 800 counties where EJI documented racial terror lynchings. EJI has invited these counties to retrieve their monument and take the lead in facilitating a local reckoning.
JCMP is a grassroots citizen-led coalition. We\’d love for you to join us. To prepare our county to retrieve our monument, we\’re spending the next several months partnering with the community to learn about this history and what it means to retrieve our monument. You\’ll learn more about these opportunities and the great research our JCMP College Fellows have completed on the 30 documented victims at the event.
