Second Saturday at Sloss-Walks and Talks in Grandmother's Garden

Presented by Birmingham Historical Society and Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark at Sloss Furnaces

Rural Southerners and immigrants from many foreign lands made possible the Magic City’s spectacular rise in the late 19th and early 29th century as the iron making capital of the South. Everyone brought their appetites, cooking customs, and their seeds, planting them in their home gardens and in the city’s culinary traditions.

On May 11, gardeners will share culinary traditions of Scotch-irish immigrants, especially their plantings of potatoes, oats and rye.
