Creative Roundtable: The Art of Storytelling

Creative Roundtable: The Art of Storytelling

Presented by Birmingham Creative Roundtable at Lyric Theatre

This February, Birmingham Creative Roundtable will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary!  We wanted to plan something extra special to share this milestone with you.  This month, our featured speaker will be Carla Jean Whitley.

Carla Jean Whitley is a writer, editor and teacher based in Birmingham, Alabama, where she is a features reporter for AL.com. She is also the author of “Birmingham Beer: A Heady History of Brewing in the Magic City,” “Muscle Shoals Sound Studio: How the Swampers Changed American Music” and “Balancing Act: Yoga Essays.” Carla Jean, a craft beer enthusiast, has been a member of women’s craft beer education group Hops for Honeys since 2010. She volunteers with literacy organizations and teaches journalism at the University of Alabama and Samford University. Her favorite yoga pose is bakasana, and her favorite cats are orange. Connect with her at carlajeanwhitley.com.

A story-telling guru, Carla Jean will be talking about “The Art of Storytelling.”  We all have a story to tell.  Whether it is part of your brand, telling the “why” behind your product or service, or just a social tool, we make important decisions almost daily about how to tailor narratives to share with others.  What are the important elements in a story?  How can you craft a story that helps you position yourself and what you do in an authentic, compelling way to your audience.  How do you edit your story?  Join us as Carla Jean walks us through these questions and more.

AND, we will be telling stories about our group – Birmingham Creative Roundtable.  For the past three years, CRT has been pulling together some amazing speakers, in some beautiful spaces in and around downtown Birmingham.  But most importantly, YOU have been a part of an amazing community of creative professionals in Birmingham that inspire each other.  What was your favorite CRT meeting?  Was there a certain speaker that helped things come into focus for you?  We’d love to know about it.  Send us your CRT stories.  We will be choosing a few people to share with the group.

What better place to celebrate our third anniversary that the Lyric Theatre.  It was two years ago that we had our Dec 2014 meeting there – pre-renovation.  What a good story this amazing theater has!  We are thankful to have been able to see it before the work began, and now we can see the renovation complete.  Prepare to be inspired!

All are welcome!  Please RSVP!  See you there
