St. Symeon Food and Culture Fair

St. Symeon Food and Culture Fair

Presented by St. Symeon Food and Culture Fair at St. Symeon Orthodox Church

Come see and hear what’s new at the Second Annual St. Symeon Food & Culture Fair! We’ve added more iconographic murals inside the church and are offering more cultural programs at the fair this year. Also, we’re opening earlier so you can join us for breakfast, and we’re offering a special Around the World lunch plate this year! We’ll still have our four market stalls that loosely coincide with our community’s diverse heritages: have Russian tea, piroshki, and all sorts of Slavic sweets at the Slavic Tea Room; enjoy Turkish coffee, Bulgarian banitsa, and Greek bread and cookies from the Balkan Bakery; get your sweet tea and poundcake fix (and more) at Southern Sweets & Savories; and enjoy Italian pizzelles, Norwegian cardamom buns, and a variety of European treats (plus coffee) at Cafe Europa. And by popular demand, get your loukoumades (Greek honey puffs) made to order in a new outside market stall!

Don’t miss our choir concerts and icon talks inside the church! The schedule is:

10a: “Icon Reading 101: The Visual Language of Holy Images” talk with Georgia Briggs and Andrew Ritchey. Georgia is an apprentice iconographer who helps paint the iconographic murals in the church. She is also the author of “Icon: A Novel,” an Ancient Faith Publishing bestseller. Andrew is the proprietor of an Orthodox graphic design company.
11a: “The Year of Our Lord” concert by the St. Symeon Choir, featuring favorite hymns from throughout the liturgical year. You don’t want to miss this special presentation by one of America’s best loved Orthodox choirs; this will be the only presentation by the full choir at this year’s fair.
1p: “What is Iconography?” talk with Protodeacon Ephraim Rivers. Back by popular request!
2p: “Praise the Lord, All Nations” concert by Prosomia Orthodox Ensemble. A new program this year! The St. Symeon choir is known for singing not only in many languages, but also in many musical styles. This concert by our powerful ensemble will take you on a musical tour around the world in Orthodox hymnody.
