Art & Conversation - Illustrious Wedgwood

Art & Conversation - Illustrious Wedgwood

Presented by Birmingham Museum of Art at Birmingham Museum of Art

The Marguerite Jones Harbert and John M. Harbert III Curator of Decorative Arts Dr. Anne Forschler-Tarrasch examines Wedgwood’s prolific medallion production. In her talk, she includes the “Illustrious Moderns” series as well as its most well-known medallion, the Slave Medallion, made in 1787. She places medallion production within the context of Wedgwood’s history and comments on function, design, and artists involved.

Art and Conversation is for people who want to learn more about art in an informal and interactive setting. These programs, with the exception of May and July, are held on the first Thursday of each month January through October at 10:30 a.m. Coffee and light refreshments are available one half-hour prior in the Main Lobby. Lectures are led by curators or guest lecturers, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions, share thoughts and ideas, and actively participate in the learning process.
