The Vulcan Orienteering Club will teach a beginning Orienteering Class at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.
The Vulcan Orienteering Club will teach a beginning Orienteering Class at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in the Nature Center on October 12, 2019. It is open to anyone who is open to roaming the woods. We start at 8:30 am and will finish by 5:00 pm.
Class starts at 8:30 am and will include three hours of classroom training, 90 minutes of practice, and a two-hour competition.
Learn what Orienteering ‘is’ and ‘is not’. Learn how to use your compass. Do you know how to read a terrain map? You will after this class. Learn and practice techniques to help you make a route choice and stick to it.
The World Games 2021 in Birmingham will feature three orienteering events. It’s going to take a LOT of volunteers to help and those with Orienteering experience will be in high demand.
The cost is $55 with early registration and includes a sandwich lunch and a compass. You can register online at the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve website under Events. Or you can send your name, phone number and email address with a check made out to Turkey Creek Nature Preserve to Anne Mathews, 5430 Etta Drive, Mount Olive, AL 35117
