The Dutch Portrait is will cover the working methods of the 17th century Dutch painters, with an emphasis on the school of Rembrandt van Rijn.

The class will focus less on the process of drawing and painting the human face and more on the process of building up a painting using layers and texture, making it beneficial to all painters regardless of subject matter. Based on the on the scientific analysis of the Rembrandt Research Project as well as Matthews’ own findings from observing and copying Dutch paintings, the class will be a thorough and useful course on building up a painting in the traditional European manner.
Level 1: Beginner – This class is appropriate for beginner to advanced painters. Covers the basic techniques of the medium and offers individual assistance. No prior experience is required.
