23 Minutes Over Birmingham is an installation comprised of drawings by Pete Schulte and an immersive quadraphonic audio installation by Andrew Raffo Dewar. The second in a series of experiments in drawing and sound produced by the pair, this iteration is being made in response to the architecture of the Samford University Art Gallery and the remnants of temporary walls built for a previous exhibition in the space. As a point of departure, Dewar’s audio installation responds to the images generated by Schulte, but also folds in, sonifies and orchestrates brainwave and electrodermal bio-data collected when Schulte produced work for the duo’s prior collaboration at Whitespace Gallery in Atlanta. In turn, Schulte’s drawings are influenced and directed by the sounds that Dewar is producing as their collaboration unfolds through an ongoing process of modification and exchange.
