Do you paint Pet Portraits or are you curious about how to go about it? How do you use a photograph most effectively as a reference for painting the portrait?… What to include from the photo? …What to leave out? … How to keep the portrait looking natural (particular attention to “edges”) and dynamic (particular attention to orientation on the canvas)?
Amy will discuss how she uses the reference photo, and Demonstrate how she paints a pet portrait alla prima (direct painting approach where paint is applied wet on wet, without letting earlier layers dry) in oil paints, on an oil primed linen panel. Participants will work on a pet portrait of their choice during the class time with group and individual guidance.
Before the workshop, participants will email Amy the photos they intend to use as a reference, so that Amy will be prepared to offer more specific guidance on individual paintings.
Level 2: Intermediate – Assumes the student has some experience in the medium. Reviews basic techniques and offers individual assistance but moves at a faster pace.
