at Financial Center Building

Join us for the first opportunity in 2020 to become an Alabama Watershed Steward!

Alabama Watershed Stewards (AWS) is a statewide science-based educational program that promotes healthy watersheds, increases understanding of water pollution, and provides the knowledge and tools needed to prevent and resolve local water quality problems. This one-day educational program is open to the general public and strives to educate citizens about watersheds and water issues, provide communities with the knowledge of how to protect and improve water quality and empower communities to help to protect the quality of their watersheds. The program is put on by Alabama Cooperative Extension System Water Program, in partnership with Alabama Water Watch, Auburn’s Water Resource Center, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, and various local Birmingham partners.

Why Care About Watersheds?

A watershed is an area of land where water flows through or across and into a common basin (river, lake or stream). Whether you’re a homeowner or someone who enjoys outdoor recreational activities, the health of our watersheds directly impacts you.

Why Become an Alabama Watershed Steward?

Being a watershed steward means understanding the intricacies that impact land and water resources, and then working together to protect them. Alabama’s waterways are home to more aquatic animals than any other state in the United States. In this one-day training, you will learn about how you can help protect and restore Alabama’s resources including our abundant water resources.
