Final Cut Pro X w/ Dionna McMillian

This is a hands-on introductory course into Apple’s powerful Final Cut Pro X Software. This class will meet once a week over the course of three consecutive weeks for 1.5 hours. This class is suited for beginner editors, filmmakers, film hobbyists ,intermediate and experienced filmmakers who would like to learn the basics of how to edit in Final Cut Pro X. This software particularly excels in the area of editing short-form content such as music videos, commercials, tutorials, demo reels, etc. It is a tool that every filmmaker should have in his or her kit.

Footage will be provided to the students by the instructor in addition to helpful “take-home” handouts. Students are also permitted to edit own footage if they’d prefer. Over the course, students will complete two take-home exercises and one in-class exercise. If students are unable to complete the take-home exercises, that is acceptable, but they are encouraged to finish assignments if possible.
REQUIRED SUPPLIES 

—An Apple computer with a minimum of 8 gb of ram

—At least 50 gb of free space on the student’s computer

Instructor Bio: Dionna McMillian is a Los Angeles based producer, series-creator and director. She is a co-creator of the digital series “The Next Right Thing” (TNRT), which was recently licensed by iOne Digital. TNRT played at multiple film festivals and was nominated for Best Pilot at the 2018 NYC Webfest, and Best Dramedy at the 2019 Miami Webfest. Currently, Dionna is pursing a co-production deal for her network travel docu-series, “Maiden Voyage”.

As a director, Dionna is best known for her short comedy film,” Love, New York”. It screened at multiple film festivals and was distributed by Issa Rae Productions. She also directed season one of “Plant-Based by Nafsika”, which was distributed by the A&E Network. She is in post-production for her comedy film, “Such A Deal”, starring Ebony Obsidian of Hulu’s “Hunters”. “Such A Deal” was licensed by the digital streaming platform, A Space for Creators and will premiere in the Spring of 2020.

In addition to producing and directing Dionna works as an adjunct professor. She holds an M.F.A in filmmaking from American University. She teaches directing and editing at New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. She was previously Chair of Post-Production for New York Film Academy’s-NY campus. During her tenure as department chair, she was a guest lecturer for N.Y.F.A. at their Beijing, Mumbai and Doha workshops.

She also has several projects in development, including Season 1 of “The Next Right Thing” and a short drama, “Call Me Chad”. As well as two other dramedy series. Dionna enjoys creating projects that explore identity through a comedic and a dramatic lens.
