Suffrage Selfie Parade Day

Suffrage Selfie Parade Day

Presented by Vulcan Park and Museum at Online/Virtual Space

Join Vulcan Park & Museum on August 26th for a digital suffrage parade and celebrate the Centennial of the 19th Amendment.

From the 19th amendment in 1920, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the continued fight to secure voting rights today, this is a day to show gratitude towards the people who fought for our right to vote and the journey it took to achieve suffrage for everyone. We may not be able to celebrate this milestone for voting rights in person but we can still have fun online! Instead of marching through Vulcan Park, we will be hosting a suffrage selfie parade across social media and we want you to join us.

How to participate:
Use #SuffrageSelfie and tag Vulcan Park and Museum on August 26th across social media
Social Media Parade Post Ideas:
-Post a photo of yourself dressed in white with a sign celebrating your right to vote
-Film yourself “marching” in your backyard
-Highlight individuals who have fought for voting rights in history or today
-Encourage people to use their voice to make a positive difference in their communities and vote

Be creative! Have fun! Don’t forget to register to vote!

Be sure to check out our exhibit in the Linn-Henly Gallery in Vulcan Museum. The exhibit explores the challenges of suffragists in Alabama, the racial issues that shaped the Women’s Suffrage Movement, and the fight for universal suffrage which continued long past 1920.
