James Knowles is the Leeds Arts Council’s featured artist in May. The public is invited to the opening reception on May 1, 2016, 1:30-3:30 pm, to view his beautiful paintings. Admission is free.
James Knowles is an artist and art educator from Trussville, Alabama. Art has always been an important part of his life. His parents say that as soon as he could walk he began drawing on the walls. James has been making and exhibiting art ever since and has been an art educator for over 30 years.
“Teaching art to high school students has been a wonderful experience. As I have taught them, I have also learned. I think it has helped me be more creative and has kept me curious, always looking to learn something new. I think that being an art teacher has kept me from confining myself to one particular style or subject, which some may see as a negative thing. But I see it as akin to learning another language, and then writing your own poetry with it.”
Mr. Knowles’ work will be on exhibit through June 2, 2016.
The Arts Center is located at 8140 Parkway Drive, in downtown Leeds.
The gallery is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and during events. In case of inclement weather, call the center at 205-699-1892 to confirm opening hours.
