On Valentine’s Weekend, McWane Science Center’s educators will be taking a look at the sweeter side of science. Can candy be used to create scientific experiments?  Join us for some science, learning, and super sweet fun, as we explore this question together. McWane Science Center will celebrate this sweet holiday by taking a look at everyone’s favorite treats, with a science lens. Some programs you won’t want to miss are (1) Candy Chromatography, learn more about the dyes used in the candy we love to eat! (2) Gumdrop Molecules, Got gumdrops? Then you can build models of molecules. Molecules are tiny structures that make up just about all matter—including you! Molecules themselves are made of atoms, the basic building blocks of matter. Using gumdrops and toothpicks, guests will create their own molecules that are good enough to eat! (3) Marshmallow Tetrahedrons, guests create their own fractal tetrahedron of six toothpicks and four mini-marshmallows and then combine them to form a larger tetrahedron. A tetrahedron, also known as a triangular pyramid, is a polyhedron composed of four triangular faces, six straight edges, and four vertex corners.
