ArtWorks@TheDJD: Hellen Weberpal's Suite for Solo Cello - Alabama Climbs

Presented by Dorothy Jemison Day Theater (DJD Theater) at Dorothy Jemison Day Theater

ArtWorks@TheDJD – an artist grant program provided by the Dorothy Jemison Day (DJD) Theater. Hellen Weberpal’s piece “Suite for Solo Cello – Alabama Climbs” is the first in a three-part series.

ArtWorks@TheDJD  presents three free cutting edge works by Birmingham, AL artists amidst the global pandemic. The works will each be available for one week on the DJD website: www.djdtheater.com.

This week’s work, “Suite for Solo Cello – Alabama Climbs,” is by Hellen Weberpal. Hellen Weberpal is a cellist with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and Cahaba River Strings and has cultivated a passion for rock climbing in her free time. Weberpal says, “as a professional cellist with a love for climbing, I wanted to compose solo cello movements inspired by the movements of a climber. Interpreting the emotions going through the climber’s mind during an ascend, and the shapes of the Alabama rock formations themselves, into a musical composition.”
