AUTHOR EVENT: Gin Phillips in conversation with Ashley Wurzbacher

We are so excited to help celebrate the release of FAMILY LAW, the much-anticipated new novel by local author Gin Phillips, which Kirkus declares is “an incisive, warm-hearted exploration of women’s roles in shaping society, the future, and each other.” Preorders are available now! Gin will be in conversation with local author Ashley Wurzbacher, whose HAPPY LIKE THIS came out to much acclaim in 2019.

Gin Phillips has written six novels, and her work has been sold in 29 countries. Her debut novel, The Well and the Mine, won the 2009 Barnes & Noble Discover Award. Her novel, Fierce Kingdom, was named one of the Best Crime Novels of 2017 by the New York Times Book Review. It was also named one of the best books of the year by NPR, Publishers Weekly, Amazon, and Kirkus Reviews. Gin’s novels also have been named as selections for Indie Next, Book of the Month, and the Junior Library Guild.

Born in Montgomery, AL, Gin graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in political journalism. After time spent in Ireland, New York, and Washington, D.C., she currently lives with her family (plus a schnoodle and a mini golden mountain doodle) in Birmingham.

Ashley Wurzbacher’s writing has appeared in The Iowa Review, The Kenyon Review, Prairie Schooner, The Cincinnati Review, Colorado Review, and elsewhere. She earned her BA from Allegheny College, her MFA from Eastern Washington University, and her PhD in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Houston. Originally from Titusville, Pennsylvania, she currently lives in Birmingham, and teaches creative writing at the University of Montevallo.

Happy Like This, her debut collection, won the 2019 John Simmons Short Fiction Award (selected by Carmen Maria Machado), is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree (selected by Brandon Hobson), and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice for October 2019. Her first novel is forthcoming from Atria Books.
