Who's on the Wall? - Angela Davis

Presented by Firehouse Community Arts Center and Birmingham Civil Rights Institute at Firehouse Community Arts Center

Many interesting and important personalities have come out of Birmingham but none more so than the individuals whose likenesses adorn the exterior wall of the Firehouse Community Arts Center located in Avondale. Sun Ra, the Rev Fred Shuttlesworth, Angela Davis, and Spider Martin have, in their own distinct ways, changed the course of Birmingham’s tumultuous story. Firehouse Community Arts Center and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will present a series of public, outside events at the Center that will focus on and celebrate the life of each person depicted.  Each month, between April and August, invited speakers will discuss the significance of these former Birmingham residents and their relevance to the history of the city.

The Angela Davis session will take place on July 17 at 10am at the Firehouse Community Arts (412 41st St. S., Birmingham, AL 35222). During this event, guest speakers will offer information and context about the life and accomplishments of Angela Davis. Attendees will need to wear masks and remain socially distanced throughout the event. All ages are welcome, and tickets are $20. Parking will be widely available and a tent will be set up to ensure attendees have access to shade.
