Southeastern Outings Wildflower Walk in Bucks Pocket State Park

Southeastern Outings Wildflower Walk in Bucks Pocket State Park

Presented by Southeastern Outings at Meeting Place: Food Giant Shopping Center Parking Lot

Details of the hike: Bucks Pocket State Park has one of the greatest concentrations and variety of wildflowers of any public area in the State of Alabama.  Join fellow nature lovers for a walk on trails in this very scenic park.  We are very fortunate in having as our wildflower resource guide, Mary Alice Thurman, an SEO member who is knowledgeable in wildflower identification.

Before we do the hike itself, we’ll drive to visit and walk around High Falls, a large-volume waterfall on Town Creek. The Falls are only about ten or so miles away from Bucks Pocket State Park.  We’ll have lunch at the High Falls and then drive the short distance to Bucks Pocket State Park.

The first part of the hike will be a slow, steep descent down from the overlook to the canyon floor.  Along the way we’ll stop by and view two lovely waterfalls in the park.  Total walking distance in Bucks Pocket State Park is about 2 miles.  Well-behaved, properly supervised children age 7 and up welcome.  Rated moderate.

After the hike we’ll enjoy an optional delicious restaurant dinner together.  The group will depart at 9:00 a.m. from the Food Giant parking lot in Pinson.
