The alternative rap band hails from Memphis, TN, and creates a sound that is a blend of various classical and contemporary genres, stylized with their brand of lyricism, aptly named The Highest Technique. They focus their creation on themes that resonate with the world, from feel-good journeys and detailed narratives to audio murals from their respective walks of life and social issues. All to push the culture forward. U901 is made up of 3 righteous leaders: Young Tero, STAR SAMO (pronounced “say-mo”), and Runazz (pronounced “roo-nazz”) make up the primary team of lyricists and vocalists. The band gained the moniker ?U901? from their larger music and arts collective, undefined901. Tero and STAR, the founders of the collective, continued the expansion of their previous 5 year vision to make music that would hold strength to change lives. Following their first year of college, the two recruited their long-time friend Runazz in August 2014, anxious to blend their separate respective sounds into a major combination and completing the new group. This meeting sparked the beginning of their intense training, each of the artists embodying the mantra that steel truly sharpens steel. These soldiers are in a constant stage of competing with and motivating each other by means of polishing their skills, evolving, and creating art. The members often remain in their turf, and doesn’t limit them to a box: the entire universe of music, art, and other mediums far and wide, serve as raw material for their lifelong masterpiece.
