Tao Lin’s LEAVE SOCIETY is many things at once: a domestic novel, an artist’s journey, a pilgrimage into the furthest reaches of self and self-discovery, a foray into civilization’s social and religious underpinnings–but mostly, and most enjoyably, it’s a story about a son returning home to his parents and his parents’ toy poodle, Dudu, and learning to care for them as he learns to care for himself.
