Celebrate the legacy of Birmingham birder Russ Bailey with a beginner-friendly field trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Join us for our annual half-day event celebrating the life and legacy of Birmingham birder Russ Bailey. Over the years, Russ dedicated countless Labor Days to impromptu field trips in pursuit of southbound migrants, a tradition that continues with this great half-day beginner bird walk to Birmingham Botanical Gardens. All ages and abilities welcome!
The details: Meetup is at 8 a.m. at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens entrance gates (2612 Lane Park Rd, Birmingham, AL 35223). As always, remember to bring your binoculars, plenty of water and snacks, insect repellent, rain gear, sunblock, and seasonally appropriate attire.
In the case of inclement weather, the event may be cancelled. You may contact the trip leader the morning of the event if the weather is questionable.
Accessibility: The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is accessible though there are some unpaved and uneven trails. Plenty of birding can be done from the paved paths which can be found throughout the park.
The birds: You can check out the latest eBird checklists for BBG here and learn more about this popular #Birdingham spot on the Appalachian Highlands Birding Trail.
This event is free. Pre-registration is required by 12 p.m. CDT on Friday, September 3rd, and space is limited. Visit https://alaudubon.org/event/2021-09-06/ for more information and to register.
