The Ethics and Urgency of Psychedelic Medicine in Mental Health

The Ethics and Urgency of Psychedelic Medicine in Mental Health

Presented by Kenton Bartlett Counseling at Birmingham Recovery Center

OVERVIEW

Psychedelic medicines include ketamine, LSD, psilocybin/magic mushrooms, ayahuasca, MDMA/ecstasy, and more. Growing up in Alabama, I learned that these were all very dangerous molecules with no therapeutic value. However, discovering the tremendous body of research around their mental health benefits has shifted my perspective. In the past year, I have extensively studied this exciting topic and would like to share what I’ve found.

These molecules can be harnessed right now as a novel tool to save lives, but they only help when we know more about what they are and how they can be used and misused.
