Babukeshi: Hand-sewing Workshop

Babukeshi: Hand-sewing Workshop

Presented by Bib & Tucker Sew-Op at The Modern Brand

As Dia de los Muertos approaches, it is certainly a time of reflection and remembering for some who find themselves visited by ancestors during this time of year. Several years ago, artist and Bib & Tucker Sew-Op co-founder, Lillis Taylor, started honoring these ancestors by creating textile dolls. But the word “doll” didn’t quite fit what the creations meant to her and so she coined the term, “babukeshi” which is a mixture of “babushka” or “grandmother” in Russian and “kokeshi” or “doll” in Japanese.

Please join Lillis for a day of sewing and celebrating your loved ones who have passed. If you have any questions about the workshop or about the registration form, send an email to lillis@lillistaylor.com. Absolutely no sewing experience needed, but an interest in fiber arts is recommended. Also, please consider bringing textiles or imagery that might help you with your creation. However, all supplies will be provided.

Most importantly, this workshop will benefit Bib & Tucker Sew-Op; a portion of the workshop fees will be donated to Sew-Op programs. Registration and payment in full is required.
