Tropical Odyssey: A Journey in Conservation

Tropical Odyssey: A Journey in Conservation

Presented by McWane Science Center at McWane Science Center

Immerse yourself in the story of rainforest conservation. More than half of all plant and animal species on earth live in rainforests. When rainforests are protected, the plants and animals that live in them are protected from extinction as well!

Learn where many of our butterflies come from! Then travel with the butterflies as they leave the rainforest for destinations around the globe. Explore the world of sustainable butterfly farming through physical role-play challenges. Along your journey, uncover other successful rainforest enterprises that impact your daily life.

Visitors can experience life as a wild or farmed butterfly and discover what challenges and adventures await them. They will learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly, the importance of host plants, and how butterfly pupae make it here from such far- away places. Children can fly, climb, and jump their way through this exciting exhibit as they learn important lessons about sustainability and what treasures the rainforest provides.
