My Brother the Bear returns to Birmingham for an evening of Storytelling, Stomp and Song.
Singer/Songwriter Daniel Bayer, aka My Brother the Bear performs with the soul of one who has lived a dozen lifetimes. In deed his songwriting depicts events from all walks of life with a specificity verging on the universal. His acclaimed song “Deadball” tells of the tragic story of 1920’s Cleveland Indians Second Baseman Ray Chapman, the only major league baseball player to be killed by a pitch. The song is soon to be featured in the major motion picture of the same name.
Bayer pulls together an eccentric life story in order to create narratives which are all too familiar to the listener. Themes ranging from home and family, to a carreer in the Army invite the audience to reflect on their own life experiences and find common ground with strangers. These stories delivered with a soulful vocal style, frantic guitar work and wailing harmonica all add to the foot-stomping, joy-enducing and sometimes heart wrenching performance that is My Brother the Bear.
